The Development and Leisure Services Department provides the following services to residents, ratepayers, developers and investors:

Economic Development

If you are interested in starting or expanding a business, we are here to help. We can provide you with demographic information, review applicable municipal by-laws, and help walk you through the process. The Town of Parry Sound Community Investment Profile is a valuable resource document for anyone wanting to develop in Parry Sound.

Our professional Planner will assist you with all land use matters. If you are planning a development, you are encouraged to meet with the Planner beforehand to ensure your development conforms and complies with the Official Plan, Zoning By-law, Planning Act, and Provincial Planning Policy Statements.

The Town's Chief Building Official (CBO) enforces the Ontario Building Code. Building permits are required prior to starting any construction/renovation project. If you are unsure if your project requires a building permit, check 'When is a permit required?'

The CBO also oversees the sign by-law.

Parks & Recreation Management

As an 8-80 Cities community, Parry Sound has an abundance of leisure activities to keep you active throughout the year. The many trails, parks, clean beaches and swimming lessons, sports courts and facilities, are made available for your enjoyment.

There are a number of Town facilities for rent, including the Bobby Orr Community Centre, Kinsmen Park and Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts.

The Parks & Recreation Manager administers the Municipal Assistance Program, a funding program for non-profit community groups and organizations.

If you want to host a Special Event, Town staff is here to help.

Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts and Bobby Orr Hall of Fame

The Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts is the area's premier entertainment centre. Presenting a number of concerts, theatre and special events including the annual Bobby Orr Hall of Fame Induction, the Stockey Centre is a hub of energy and excitement!
