Jamie McGarvey was a Municipal Councillor for 29 years before being elected as Mayor of the Town of Parry Sound in 2010, a position he has held since then.
Jamie has been a Customer Service Advisor with Parry Sound Home Hardware for almost 45 years. He is a fourth generation Parry Sound resident and is married to Alison Scarrow. They have three children: Michael, Aaron and Bronwyn.
Jamie has an extensive lifetime of experience in Parry Sound; he has served on many local, area and district committees over the last 40 years and has had many dealings with all levels of government:
Over the years Jamie has worked with Federal and Provincial politicians and staff to help create opportunity for the Parry Sound Area. His work to get natural gas to the Parry Sound Area and to get a Community Futures Committee, which was able to get a Community Business Development Corporation here, has definitely helped the Parry Sound Area.
Jamie has assisted in building one of the best Land Ambulance services in Ontario. He has been recognized by the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association for taking initiative in trying to change federal and provincial policy so that more affordable housing can be built and current housing stock maintained. Jamie continues to work in the Parry Sound community to help create growth and greater opportunity.
