The Town of Parry Sound offers recreation opportunities for all ages of community members.  For more information on adult recreation opportunities in Town, please click on the recreation program listed below.

COVID-19 Update

(September 14, 2021) - In accordance with the Province of Ontario's Roadmap to Reopen announced on May 20,  certain activities and amenities are permitted to reopen to the public.  As of July 16, 2021, the Province of Ontario has entered Stage 3 of the reopening plan.  For complete restrictions see the Provincial webpage.

In accordance with Stage 3 of the Roadmap to Reopen, recreation programming and room bookings at the Bobby Orr Community Centre will resume based on facility availability.

As of September 22, 2021 and under O. Reg. 364/20 Rules for Areas at Step 3 and at the Roadmap Exit Step, patrons entering the Bobby Orr Community Centre must provide proof of full vaccination that meets the requirements of the provincial legislation.

This web page will be updated as new information surrounding the reopening of the Bobby Orr Community Centre is made available.

COVID-19 Procedures for Participants at Drop-In Programs

Town staff have implemented several procedures and protocols for the use of the Bobby Orr Community Centre during drop-in recreation programming to comply with Provincial legislation.  Facility rules for recreation programming, the Facility Screening Questionnaire, and the Vaccine Certificate Protocol can be found by clicking the links below:

Floor Curling (Drop-in)

Floor Curling is a modified version of the Olympic sport of curling with one major difference – no ice!  It offers participants a great introduction to the game, or a way to continue your love for the game beyond the ice surface.

Where: Bobby Orr Community Centre (Stanley Cup Hall), 7 Mary St, Parry Sound, ON P2A 1C8

When: Wednesdays, 1:00 - 3:00 PM, beginning September 29, 2021.

What to Bring: Players should bring clean running shoes to play.  All equipment is provided!

Cost: $1 per person

Gentle Fit

Gentle Fit is a one-hour class combining low impact movement, strength training, mobility, flexibility as well as balance exercises.  This program is designed to help participants engage all of the major muscle groups including their brain, lungs and heart using aerobic movement and resistance bands. 

Exercises can be performed sitting or standing. Beginners are welcome. 

Where: Bobby Orr Community Centre (Hart room), 7 Mary St, Parry Sound, ON P2A 1C8

When: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30 - 10:30 AM

Session 1: October 5 - November 11, 2021 ($82 per person)

Session 2: November 16 - December 23, 2021 ($82 per person)

Session 3: January 4 - March 10, 2022 (no classes week of Jan. 18) ($124 per person)

Session 4: March 15 - May 12, 2022 ($124 per person)

Cost: See sessions above for pricing.  Please note that drop-in participants will be welcomed on a first-come, first-serve basis if there are spots available in the class.  Drop-in registrations are $10 per class, and can be paid at the time of the program.

Line Dancing (Drop-in)

No partner is necessary for this dance activity!  Line dancing is a great activity for maintaining flexibility and balance, and is just downright fun!  No experience required, all abilities are welcome to join.

Where: Bobby Orr Community Centre (Stanley Cup Hall), 7 Mary St, Parry Sound, ON P2A 1C8

When: Fridays, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, beginning October 1, 2021.

Cost: $1 per person

Pickleball (Drop-in)

Pickleball is a game similar to tennis, played on a smaller court with paddles and a wiffle ball.  Pickleball offers participants a terrific workout and social opportunities.  New players are welcome, and will be guided through the basic rules and technique of the sport.  Join in, and see why Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in North America!

Where: Bobby Orr Community Centre (Stanley Cup Hall), 7 Mary St, Parry Sound, ON P2A 1C8

When: Wednesdays, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, beginning September 29, 2021.

What to Bring: Players should wear athletic attire, and bring clean running shoes to play.  Although paddles and balls are available for use, participants are welcome to bring their own equipment too!

Shuffleboard (Drop-in)

Floor shuffleboard is now being offered in the Town of Parry Sound.  All equipment is provided, no experience necessary.  Come out for an afternoon of activity, socializing, and fun!  Please bring a pair of clean running shoes to play.

When: Thursdays, 1:00 - 3:00 PM, beginning September 30, 2021.

What to Bring: Players should bring clean running shoes to play.  All equipment is provided!

Walking Group (Drop-in)

Are you looking to keep active during the winter months?  The Bobby Orr Community Centre will be open during scheduled times for individuals to walk indoors in the Stanley Cup Hall.  This program is designed to allow older adults and seniors to maintain healthy lifestyles during our Parry Sound winter.

Where: Bobby Orr Community Centre (Stanley Cup Hall), 7 Mary St, Parry Sound, ON P2A 1C8

When: Mondays and Tuesdays, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM, beginning September 27, 2021.

What to Bring: Please bring indoor walking shoes.

Cost: $1 per person

Registration

Please note that due to capacity limits at drop-in programs,  we now require pre-registration.  Participants may pre-register for drop-in programs up to 7 days in advance of the program. 

Pre-registration can be done online by completing the Drop-In Program Registration Form, or by calling the Recreation Programs Coordinator at 705-746-2701 ext. 201 to reserve a spot.
