The Town of Parry Sound offers recreation opportunities for all ages of community members.  For more information on adult recreation opportunities in Town, please click on the recreation program listed below.

Gentle Fit

Gentle Fit is a one-hour class combining low impact movement, strength training, mobility, flexibility, and balance exercises. This program is designed to help participants engage all major muscle groups including their brain, lungs and heart using aerobic movement and resistance bands.

Essentrics® Stretch and Tone 

Essentrics® Stretch and Tone is a dynamic, full-body workout that will work all 650 muscles of the body and rebalance the muscle chains, connective tissue and fascia. The movements articulate the spine, allowing you to explore your spines entire range of motion. The workout also liberates the hips resulting in improved mobility and agility. 

Benefits of Essentrics® Stretch and Tone include:

  • Full-body stretch to rebalance muscles, connective tissues and fascia;
  • Articulate the spine;
  • Liberate the hips;
  • Improve overall strength, endurance, agility and mobility; 
  • Refresh tired feet;

Floor Curling (Drop-in)

Floor Curling is a modified version of the Olympic sport of curling with one major difference – no ice!  It offers participants a great introduction to the game, or a way to continue your love for the game beyond the ice surface.

Where: Bobby Orr Community Centre (Stanley Cup Hall), 7 Mary St, Parry Sound, ON P2A 1C8

When: Wednesdays, 1:00 - 3:00 PM

What to Bring: Players should bring clean running shoes to play.  All equipment is provided!

Cost: $1 per person

Minds in Motion®

The Town of Parry Sound has partnered with the Alzheimer's Society of Muskoka to offer the Minds in Motion program.

Minds in Motion is a community-based social program that incorporates physical and mental stimulation for people with early to mid-stage Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia and their care partners.  Through the 8-week Minds in Motion program, both the person living with dementia and their care partner can benefit from the following:

  • Increasing physical activity through gentle group exercise.
  • Establishing new friendships with others who are living with similar experiences.
  • Engaging in fun, social activities.

Minds in Motion

Pickleball (Drop-in)

Pickleball is a game similar to tennis, played on a smaller court with paddles and a wiffle ball.  Pickleball offers participants a terrific workout and social opportunities.  New players are welcome, and will be guided through the basic rules and technique of the sport.  Join in, and see why Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in North America!

Due to the increased participation and popularity of Pickleball in our community, we have added additional Pickleball timeslots to our schedule. Please be aware, these timeslots are being introduced on a trial basis. Be sure to sign in every day to ensure that participation is accurately tracked.

When: Mondays: 1pm-3pm & 6pm-8pm (beginner) 
           Wednesdays: 9am-12pm
           Fridays: 2pm-4pm (beginner) (until Friday, April 28th)

What to Bring: Players should wear athletic attire, and bring clean running shoes to play.  Although paddles and balls are available for use, participants are welcome to bring their own equipment too!

Cost: $1 per person

Line Dancing (Drop-in)

No Partner is necessary for this drop in dance activity! 

Line Dancing is a great activity for maintaining flexibility and balance, and is just downright fun for everyone!

No experience is required, all abilities are welcome to join. 

Beginners can arrive at 9:30am for additional instruction- regular class begins at 10am

When: Fridays, 10am-11:30am (Until Friday, May 12th, 2023) 

Cost: $1.00 per person

Adult Public Skate (Drop-in)

Adult public skate is available Monday-Thursday at the Bobby Orr Community Centre (BOCC). Please review our Community Calendar for the most recent schedule. 

  • CSA Helmet is recommended
  • No boots, strollers or wagons permitted- skates only

When: Monday-Thursday from 12pm-1pm

Cost: $2.00

 

Indoor Walking (Drop-in)

Are you looking to keep active during the winter months? The Bobby Orr Community Centre will be open during scheduled times for individuals, and groups, to walk indoors- in the Stanley Cup Hall. 

This program is designed to allow older adults and seniors to maintain healthy lifestyles during our cold, and icy, Northern Ontario winters.

When: Monday, 11am-12pm beginning September 26th- please check our Community Calendar for any program cancellations

Cost: $1.00

 

Shuffleboard (Drop-in)

Floor shuffleboard is now being offered in the Town of Parry Sound.  All equipment is provided, no experience necessary.  Come out for an afternoon of activity, socializing, and fun!  Please bring a pair of clean running shoes to play.

When: Thursdays, 1:00 - 3:00 PM, beginning September 30, 2021.

What to Bring: Players should bring clean running shoes to play.  All equipment is provided!
