Rogers Hometown Hockey Parry Sound October 13 and 14

Rogers Hometown Hockey makes its way to Parry Sound, Ontario on October 13/14 and you can expect a great weekend of FREE hockey-related activities, NHL Alumni appearances, music, and fun for the whole family!

Join Ron MacLean and Tara Slone LIVE on site on Sunday, October 14th for the Carolina Hurricanes vs. Winnipeg Jets intermission broadcast as they tell the stories that celebrate the hockey history and culture that put Parry Sound on Canada's hockey map!

Rogers Hometown Hockey Festival Details

Location

 Town Dock & Island Queen, 9 Bay Street, Parry Sound, ON, P2A 1S4

Parking

There will be no onsite parking at the Town Dock.  Please plan accordingly and respect private property.

Hometown Hockey Fans are encouraged to park at the following locations:

Please note that accessible parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, located in the angled parking on Bay Street and will be identified by signage.

Time

  • Saturday, Oct. 13 – Festival open from noon to 6 PM
  • Sunday, Oct. 14 – Festival opens at noon and runs through the end of the Rogers Hometown Hockey outdoor viewing party 

Features

 The free hockey-themed weekend features games, prize giveaways, fun activities, and live local entertainment for the whole family, including: 
  • Rogers Fan Hub: Rogers celebrates your community within the Fan Hub. Help support local minor hockey and participate in fun and interactive experiences, autograph signings with NHL alum Shayne Corson, video game stations, bubble hockey, and popcorn!
  • Sportsnet Virtual Photo Booth and Interactive GamesFans have the chance to get close to their favorite players through virtual technology. Fans can take photos with virtual images of NHL stars, and have the photo emailed directly to their device for social sharing and their chance to win great prizes. In addition, hockey players of all ages will be able to show off their hockey skills and see how they match up to the NHL stars!
  • The Steve Goodtime Rock n’ Roll Hockey Show: Come see a hilarious rock n' roll circus show performed by Steve Goodtime. With routines including mouthstick, fire breathing and juggling, he tops it all off with the greatest show you have ever seen! It is an experience that the family will never forget.  
  • Ram Haul of Fame: Features the Ram 1500 in a hockey-themed obstacle course that will test the skills of fans of all ages. Also, fans have the opportunity to enter the Breakaway Giveaway contest to win an all-new 2019 Ram 1500 for their family and $5,000 for their local minor hockey association. All contest entrants will receive a free branded giveaway courtesy of Dodge. 
  • Dr. Oetker Giuseppe Pizzeria: Fans can enjoy a complimentary slice of Giuseppe Pizzeria pizza fresh out of the oven, and learn more about the Find Giuseppe contest with many great prizes to be won!
  • Tim Hortons: As fans are enjoying the festival, warm up with a complimentary coffee or hot chocolate from the Tim Hortons mobile truck.
  • Playmobil Kids Zone: Fans have the chance to face off against friends and family with the PLAYMOBIL NHL Arena and its lineup of NHL figures. In the zone, fans will also be able to enter to win a new NHL playset.
  • Scotiabank Community Hockey Rink: A family-friendly outdoor hockey space to engage hockey fans, interact with NHL alum Gary Sabourin, celebrate the game and play ball hockey. Scotiabank will also be donating $15,000 to minor hockey associations in the community.
  • Live Local Entertainment: Live music featured throughout the weekend beginning with Carl Dixon performing on Saturday followed by The Muskoka Roads Band on Sunday.

  • The Rogers Hometown Hockey Festival will feature an outdoor viewing party for the game and broadcast at the Town Dock and Island Queen.

 Bobby Orr Reflections

  • In an exclusive interview, Orr shares his memories of growing up in Parry Sound, being recruited by the Bruins, and why he still feels so connected to the region where he grew up. Today, Orr is still involved in the game through his player management company, the Orr Hockey Group, which represents players such as Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid. With that perspective, Orr also shares his thoughts on hockey's evolution since his playing days.

Mark Ideson

  • Canadian wheelchair curling Paralympian and Parry Sound native, Ideson is a former member of the Parry Sound Shamrocks junior team. Ideson took up the sport of wheelchair curling in 2010 and made his Paralympic Games debut four years later in Sochi where he helped Canada win the gold medal. Four years later, he skipped Canada to a bronze medal in wheelchair curling at the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games. 

Exploring Parry Sound

  • Tara will explore one of the most idyllic locations in Ontario, aboard the M.V. Chippewa III, which used to sail under Niagara Falls, known as “Maid of the Mist”. The M.V. Chippewa III now calls Parry Sound home, and offers tours of the area and the 30,000 islands that make this section of Northern Ontario so famous.

 

Food Drive

Get your team together and show your support for the Parry Sound community by gathering food donations for local support service organizations!  The team that raises the most pounds of food per team member is eligible for a grand prize!

 Rogers Hometown Hockey is looking for volunteers to fill the following positions:

  • Ball Hockey Rink Attendant
  • Popcorn Service
  • Interactive Hockey Games Attendant

Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age, and able to commit to volunteering for either an afternoon or evening shift on October 13 and 14.
