Committee Policies

All lay members of Boards, Committees and Commissions appointed by Council are given training and are expected to follow the Committees Policy and sign the Committee Rights & Responsibilities Declaration.

Code of Conduct

The Municipal Act in Ontario allows a municipal council to create a Code of Conduct for its members of Council and its members of Boards, Committees and Commissions under Council's oversight. That Code, together with provincial law, sets out the ethical standards of behavior in 4 points:

  • to protect the public interest
  • to promote high ethical standards among members
  • to provide a common understanding of the basic rights, privileges, and obligations of members
  • to provide a means for members to get authorization for conduct being contemplated in situations where they are uncertain as to the ethical appropriateness of that conduct

Municipal Council members and members of Boards, Committees and Commissions hold positions of privilege and trust. They are expected to carry out their duties in a manner that recognizes a basic commitment to the well-being of the community and regard for the integrity of the Corporation. Town of Parry Sound Council approved a Council Code of Conduct in August of 2010 and there have been further amendments. All elected officials and appointed members of Boards, Committees and Commissions are subject to the Council Code of Conduct and will be asked to sign the Code.
