Building Permit

Applying for a permit

A building permit is required for new construction, renovations, demolition, and change of use.

The Town of Parry Sound now offers the ability to make your application and track the status of your permit application online through CloudPermit, our online application portal.

The CloudPermit portal will take you through the process of submitting the prescribed forms, fees and construction drawings required for submission of a complete application.

Prefer to submit a paper application? You can do so by submitting:

Do I require a designer?

Depending on the building type and scope of work, the construction drawings may be required to be designed by a qualified and registered designer, architect, professional engineer, or a combination thereof. There are some exemptions to this rule. One such exemption allows the homeowner to take responsibility for the design of certain aspects of a project related to a house.

Before submitting an application, you must ensure you comply with other applicable law.

Other approvals which may be required prior to receiving a building permit include:

If you are erecting a sign or other advertising device within the Town of Parry Sound you may require a sign permit.

What happens after I submit the application?

After we receive the building permit application, staff will review the application for completeness and perform an overall applicable law and Ontario Building Code compliance review. If we require additional information, you will be contacted and the application review will be put on hold.  Once your plans have been deemed to be in compliance with all applicable law and the Ontario Building Code, you will be issued a permit for your project

For those utilizing the CloudPermit portal you will receive updates as the permit progresses through the application and approval process.

Upon receiving a building permit, you must post it in a visible location. Approved plans bearing the Municipalities approval stamp must be kept on site at all times and made available to the inspector.

It is the responsibility of the person in control of the project to call for required inspections. Our requirement for notice is a minimum of 48 hours. Inspections can be booked by phone (705) 746-2101 x 225 or email, or requested through the CloudPermit portal.
