A Community Call:

Improve Housing for Children and Youth with Disabilities

In pursuit of a community where every child has the opportunity to grow and thrive, the issue of accessible and affordable housing for children and youth with disabilities takes centre stage. At the Town of Parry Sound, we are honoured to support Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital in their vital research initiative.

The Importance of Accessible Housing

For families with children and youth with disabilities, finding a home that meets their specific needs can be a challenging journey. Suitable housing is not just a necessity but a foundation for development and quality of life. This is why understanding these housing experiences is essential.

This research aims to transform the landscape of housing for children and youth with disabilities, paving the way for more inclusive communities across Ontario. Holland Bloorview’s commitment to further engagement with policymakers and housing providers could amplify these efforts, leading to impactful social change and enhanced community support systems for you, your family and the greater community.

Join the Research: Your Experience Matters

Holland Bloorview is reaching out to parents, youth, and housing stakeholders who can share valuable insights into the world of accessible housing:

  1. Parents of Children with Disabilities: Share your family's journey and the hurdles in finding a home that truly supports your child's needs.
    2. Youth and Young Adults with Disabilities: If you're aged 19-29 years old, your first-hand experiences with housing challenges that support your disability can illuminate paths to change.
    3. Housing Stakeholders: If you're an architect, planner, designer, builder, contractor, realtor, policy decision maker, clinician doing home assessments, or otherwise involved in housing, your expertise is crucial for crafting accessible communities.
