Waterfront Development Master Plan

Parry Sound's waterfront is a gathering place on the shores of magnificent Georgian Bay, a special place that is cherished and visited often by local residents and tourists alike. It is a place where land meets water, where culture meets nature, a place of vitality and economic opportunity.

The Waterfront Development Concept Plan identifies areas along the waterfront suitable for development or redevelopment. Any development should include a commitment to maintain public access along the water's edge, open views of the harbor and Seguin River, and connected systems of public spaces and pedestrian routes.

Parry Sound Waterfront

The Town of Parry Sound is undertaking a process to update the Waterfront Master Plan and invites community residents and visitors to get involved.

The waterfront is one of the defining features of the Town of Parry Sound. Set on the shores of Georgian Bay, the waterfront and harbour area are accentuated by the rugged Canadian Shield and tall pine trees, offering spectacular vistas with access to Georgian Bay and the 30,000 islands archipelago.

The waterfront is a gathering place and a destination for many.

Through this process, we are looking to explore and update the Vision of what the waterfront could become over time. To do that, we need to understand what is important to you. What should be included at the waterfront in terms of uses, activities, places and spaces?

Currently the Town’s waterfront has a mix of publicly owned (i.e. Town, Provincial and Federal government) and privately owned lands. Recently the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests announced that they will be vacating their property on the waterfront across from the Stockey Centre. The Province will go through a process of disposing of those lands. The Waterfront Master Plan can help inform what uses should go on those lands in the future.

There is also much interest in the redevelopment of private lands in the harbour area and new development along the north shore.

It’s important that the Town sets out the Vision of the waterfront through a new Waterfront Master Plan as it will help to guide development, investments and decision-making.
