Wildlife

The Town of Parry Sound is full of wildlife, including reptiles, birds, and mammals. Wildlife is always best viewed from a distance.

Nuisance Prevention

To prevent nuisance animals the Town of Parry Sound requires that you keep all garbage stored in an enclosed container, if it is stored outside. This container can be as simple as a garbage can with a lid or it can be something more secure - like a shed.

Feeding Wildlife

The Town of Parry Sound does not have a municipal bylaw prohibiting people from feeding wildlife. The Town supports the Ministry of Natural Resources view that feeding wild animals may do more harm than good.

Emergency

If you feel there is an immediate threat to a person from wildlife call the police at 911.

Non-Emergency Nuisance Bear

To report a nuisance bear call the Bear Wise reporting line: 1-866-514-2327.

Black bears have always been active in our community.  View expert speaker Dr. John Beecham, Bear Biologist/Consultant, for an engaging experience where you can learn how to co-exist with black bears in safe and respectful ways, recorded Oct. 7, 2022.

Coyotes

Coyotes have long lived in proximity to people and often thrive in urban settings due to the lack of predators and the availability of food and habitat.  As these adaptable predators navigate the complexities of city life, they challenge traditional perceptions of wildlife and urban environments. Often seen prowling through parks, alleyways, and even residential neighborhoods, urban coyotes have developed unique behaviors to thrive amidst human activity. Their presence prompts important discussions about coexistence, wildlife management, and the balance between urban development and natural ecosystems.  Please find additional resources below addressing coexisting with coyotes.
