Climate Action and Energy

The Town of Parry Sound has taken a progressive role in understanding energy usage in regard to conservation and demand management since 2014.  It has been the Town's goal to reduce energy usage and set goals for reducing green house gas emissions (GHG's).

In July of 2019, Town Council joined the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and ICLEI - Partners for Climate Protection Program.  This program commits the Town to reducing GHG's to 30% of 2005 levels by 2030.  This is done by leveraging a 5-milestone framework and involves collaboration with area Municipalities for greater effectiveness.

The Town of Parry Sound has completed Milestone 1 for both Corporate and Community baseline emissions inventory and forecasting.  Continuing forward, the Town will begin setting emission reduction targets and begin development of a local action plan.

As per provincial mandate (Electricity Act of 1998 and Ontario Regulation 507/18) the Town tracks and reports on energy usage for a variety of facility types.  This information is available for the following years: 2011201220132014201520162017, and 2018.

The Town's 2019 Five Year Conservation and Demand Management Plan commits to reducing energy use by 3% over the next five years.  This plan sets forth a strategy for meeting these goals and objectives through specific projects and processes.
