Councillor Paul Borneman

Portrait of Paul BornemanI am a proud life-long Parry Sounder. Along with my wife Elsa, we've lived, worked and raised our family here. This is our home. Through the years I have been involved in organizing, coaching and participating in various sporting events and activities. I continue to support various local initiatives such as Harvest Share.

It has been my honour to serve on Council since 1997. In that time there have been numerous positive changes in our community which I am proud to have played a part in delivering.

After 25 years of on the job training, I have served on a wide variety of boards and committees and have a broad range of experience, appreciation and understanding regarding the many issues that face our community. In fulfilling my duties regarding the Town, I have always kept an open mind, try to treat people fairly and with respect and look for the best possible solution for the entire community. I am a team player who looks to build consensus. I believe that honesty, transparency and trust are keys for every level of government dealing with its neighbours, partners and constituents. I take the responsibility of serving on Council seriously and will continue to work to the best of my ability to ensure the people of Parry Sound get the best return on their investment.

Fiscal responsibility, strategic reinvestment in our infrastructure, re-development of the Town's waterfront, making the community more investment ready allowing for the creation of additional businesses, jobs and, fostering a range of housing opportunities while being environmentally responsible and user friendly, need to be our priorities. The best way this can be accomplished is an area wide governance review. Operating as seven small independent municipalities comes at a cost. In my view, its time for the area to stop bickering and work together. It is imperative we start planning and implementing policy together to deliver more and better services in a more efficient manner. Failure to do so will result in falling even further behind surrounding districts.
